The Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, Hon Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, has stated that, public private partnership remains a veritable tool for driving a sustainable development within the Local Government Area and the Nation at large.
The Council Boss, made this statement during the visit of the Nigerian Breweries Ota plant Manager, Mrs Chinyere Oguala to his office at the Secretariat of Ado Odo Ota Local Government. He appreciated the management of the company for the visit, stating that the move reflects the company's commitment to community engagement and collaboration.
While addressing the issue of multiple taxation, Hon Lawal Wasiu, explained that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, empowers Local Government to collect levies and rates where necessary, adding that such does not conflict with taxes collected by Federal or State Government. He cited instances such as the establishment of private markets and management of corporate parks as areas under the jurisdiction of the Local Government.
The Chairman, emphasized the importance of regular stakeholder engagement and disclosed plans by his administration to embark on visits to major industries in the area to better understand their challenges and foster a more conducive business environment.
"My desire is to see our industries transition from from loss-making to profit -making, as this is the only way we can be mutually beneficial to each other" the Chairman concluded.
Earlier speaking, the Brewery Manager of Nigerian Breweries, Ota Plant, Mrs. Chinyere Oguala, described the visit as a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between the company and the Local Government. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust partnership with the host community, especially as a thriving business operating within the council area. She commended the Chairman for providing an enabling environment for businesses to flourish.While seeking clarification on taxes and levies imposed by various tiers of government, Mrs. Oguala also shared the brewery’s plan to beautify the plant’s frontage as part of its green sustainability initiatives. She appealed to the Council for support in evacuating petty traders currently operating in front of the company’s premises to ensure a seamless execution of the project.
