AOLG Boss Tasks NUJ Ota, to Educate Residents on LG Autonomy

Ado Odo Ota local government chairman Alhaji Wasiu Lawal (FCA) has tasked Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) Independent Online Chapel Ota to educate citizens on local government autonomy during a courtesy visit to his office on Wednesday in Ado Odo Ota Secretariat. 


 He said federal government allocation is not meant for general public alone, but include first line charges which include staff salaries, administrative cost, pensions, primary school teachers salaries and traditional rulers, adding that Ado Odo Ota is the largest in recurrent expenditure in Ogun state. While remnants of the allocation is now meant for capital projects.

In addition, he said in order to give dividend of democracy, the local government executives need to think beyond federal government allocation and work on internal generated revenue (IGR).

He charges NUJ members to see themselves as partner, image makers with impactful roles to play in local government development. 


He further said, he appreciates the Independent Online chapel for coming to stay as this will streamline activities of social media influence in Ado Odo Ota local government, in ogun state in particular and Nigeria as a whole. 

Also, the chairman said he believes in objective reporting, as his profession as an accountant entails and charged every member to avoid any reporting that could tarnish their integrity as journalists. He implored all NUJ members to be mindful of the profession ethic and their roles in reporting.

Adding that Olota bequeating land to NUJ  is a welcome development and assured of the local government assistance when needed. Conclusively, he said " it is a collective responsibility of every resident  of Ado Odo Ota to project the good deed of  our esteemed society. 

 The caretaker committee chairman of NUJ Ota, Comrade Kayode Taiwo assured the chairman of the members support and highlighted some area that need local government urgent attention which are traffic control management, drainage and promotion of physical education in primary schools in Ado Odo Ota local government area. 

In attendance for the courtesy visit are the Ado-Odo Ota local government chairman, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu (FCA) secretary to the local government, Hon. Ogabi Mohammed, member of the local government management team and NUJ ota members.
