The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), under the leadership of its General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, recently convened a high-level engagement with a delegation from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Lagos Branch.
The meeting, held at LASTMA Headquarters, sought to address pressing concerns regarding parking and traffic management in the vicinity of churches, particularly in Okokomaiko, Lagos.
Mr. Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the Agency’s statutory mandate to ensure the seamless regulation and management of traffic across Lagos State. He emphasized the universal applicability of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, underscoring its impartial enforcement irrespective of religious affiliations.
“The management of traffic within Lagos State transcends religious or cultural considerations,” Mr. Bakare-Oki declared.
He further elucidated the strategic deployment of Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) devices by LASTMA personnel, designed to mitigate confrontations with traffic violators and bolster real-time enforcement efficiency.
Assuring the delegation of the Agency’s unwavering commitment, he emphasized that LASTMA would continue to discharge its responsibilities with diligence and professionalism.
Representing the PFN, Apostle Phillip Alade, Director of Security for the Lagos Branch, commended LASTMA’s tireless efforts in maintaining orderliness on Lagos roads.
However, he expressed concerns regarding instances where vehicles belonging to PFN members were allegedly booked by TMS cameras for traffic obstructions around church premises, despite claims of compliance with traffic regulations.
Apostle Alade and other members of the delegation called for a synergistic understanding between LASTMA and the PFN, particularly during church services. They proposed collaborative measures to foster improved traffic management in these areas.
In a resolution to the discussions, both parties agreed to establish a joint committee to address the issues raised. The committee’s mandate will include training church members on traffic management best practices, thereby enhancing compliance and mutual cooperation.
This strategic partnership underscores LASTMA’s dedication to fostering robust stakeholder engagements and ensuring the efficient flow of traffic across the metropolis.
Prominent PFN representatives in attendance included Apostle Philip Ayanfe Alade (DSI, Director General), Rev. Dr. Osungbohun (DSI Secretary), Rev. Dr. Udom, Rev. Aderounmu Johnson, Rev. Ben Igemokha, Pastor P.B. Ajayi, Rev. Donald Akpan, Pastor Yousouph Joseph, Apostle Dr. E.R. Angel, Rev. Marcus O. Luke, Rev. Dr. Obed Akpede, Bishop Saint Robinson, Rev. Odjeni George, Rev.
