Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa was impeached at a sitting held on Monday, January 13, 2024, over alleged financial misappropriations.
Obasa was subsequently replaced by his deputy Lasbat Meranda. Mrs Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, was also a former chief whip of the House.

A report earlier claimed that Obasa oversaw the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for back up vehicles for lawmakers, as well as other controversial activities.
The staggering sum was part of roughly N90.5 billion Mr Obasa and his accomplices drew from Lagos coffers for frivolous and arcane line items between January 2023 and the third quarter of 2024. Therefore, the expenditure did not include what the lawmakers spent in the last quarter of 2024.
On June 6, 2023, Obasa was reelected the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker representing the Agege 1 Constituency was re-elected for the sixth term during the 18 March election having scored 17,214 votes to beat his closest rival, Raheem Alani of the Labour Party (LP) who had 3,933 votes.
