Ado-Odo Ota LG Boss Vows to Combat Non-Compliance With Environmental Sanitation Exercise |Omohglobalnews


Ado-Odo Ota LG Boss has vowed to  enforce stringent measures against market men and women who default in making their market clean, especially on refuse dumping, road blockage ls and unauthorised market stalls. 


The AOOLG boss, Hon. Lawal Wasiu made the assertion during a meeting with the market leaders at local government secretariat on 16th December, 2024. 

The meeting convened, was attended by prominent market leaders from various markets across the Ado Odo Ota local government area and its environs. The markets are Isorosi market, Ijoko Market, Atan Market, Oba Titi Dada Market Oja Ota, Lusada / Igbesa market. It also includes Onibuku Market, Ijako market, Ado 1, Osuke market, Iju Ota Market, Ilogbo market, Lafenwa market, Alapoti Market, Mopin market, and Atan market. The market leaders were led by  Iyaloja General of Ado Odo Ota local government, Chief Mrs. Adetoro Adeogun, to address the issue of refuse dumping, road blockages, and unauthorized market stalls.

Hon. Lawal Wasiu stressed the importance of environmental sanitation, noting its significance for the health, safety, and well-being of market users and the community. He urged market leaders to educate their members on maintaining a clean market and reporting any non-compliance to the relevant authorities.

The local government Head of Administration, Alhaji Junaid Wasiu Babatunde, also urged the Iyalojas and Babalojas to support the local government by contributing positively to development and providing information that will help the chairman in his decision-making.

The Director of General Service and Administration, Bisi Akinde, in her address, requested that market leaders sensitize traders on how to keep the market clean and stay within their shops to avoid unnecessary traffic both within and outside the market. 


In their responses, Iyaloja Atan raised concerns about the activities of the IGR Consultant on stalls and shops extension, with their excessive demands, high fees and lock up shops at night with a passionate appeal to the Chairman to help curb this excessive act. 

Babaloja Iju also requested the council to provide refuse motor for Iju Market, as PSP operators are not helping with refuse collection. In addition, Iyaloja Ota reported that people dumping refuse on the road is the major problem they are having, especially at the closure of their various businesses. While Iyaloja Lusada/Igbesa requested that a big waste bin be provided for the market to help the market women dispose of waste properly.

 However, Iyaloja General responded that providing a big waste bin might worsen the situation, as residents will misuse the opportunity. Iyaloja of Ado Odo and Treasurer of market leaders in Ado-Odo/Ota LG called on the council chairman to help in commissioning the finished lock-up shop to enhance market activities in the axis.

The Chairman promised to set up an enforcement task force to tackle those who block drainage or erect structures on drainage paths. He also urged market leaders to help collect due payments on shops and ensure that traders revert to their shops inside the market, clearing the roads. 

The Chairman further urged the treasurer and auditor to work on this issue and sensitize the affected market area, especially Oja Oruba, Oju Ore, which has the worst case of road block and indiscriminate refuse dumping.

In a positive development, over 200 stores are now available in Atan for market use, and the Chairman promised to evacuate those selling on the road at Atan market and urges others to take advantage of the stores. He also plans to evacuate those selling by the bridge side and causing heavy traffic at Sango.

The Treasurer appreciated the presence of all market leaders and promised to work together to address the environmental sanitation issues. With the Chairman's commitment to tackling environmental sanitation defaulters, market users can look forward to a cleaner and more organized market environment.
