BREAKING: Eguaveon Steps Down As Interim Coach of Super Eagles |Omohglobalnews

Austine Eguavoen has stepped down as the interim coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Eguavoen stepped down on Tuesday, September 10, 2204, after the senior national football team drew 0-0 against Rwanda in the AFCON qualifiers in Kigali.

According to him, the match against Wasps of Rwanda was his last in accordance with the agreement with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Eguavoen was handed the role of the interim coach following a breakdown in talks with German coach Bruno Labbadia, and was tasked with leading the team for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers games against Benin Republic and Rwanda, and after leading the team to a win against Benin and a draw against Rwanda picking four out of a possible six points, he has announced his departure as coach.

Speaking at the airport in an interview with Pius Idoko made available to our editorial team, the coach refused to be drawn into the team’s preparation for their game in October against Libya, insisting that his mandate was for two games only.

“I have been given a mandate to handle two games. I will want to say I am very pleased with the boys and again thanks to the NFF leadership and all the boys supported me in terms of discipline and working hard”, he said.

“It ends today, which is the two games mandate. I can’t talk about Libya because I haven’t been told but however I can talk about it a little bit incase we have another coach, we can talk about it I want to be closer to the team as it should be and I can give inside story and inside information that we need to be able to overcome Libya.

“No team is a pushover anymore but with this spirit that these boys have exhibited and from what I have seen we have a very bright future”.
