As we commemorate this day, we pay tribute to the courageous journalists who risk their lives to uncover the truth, expose injustices, and give voice to the voiceless. Your tireless efforts to seek truth and report facts are the bedrock of a free and informed society.
IHRAAC recognizes the challenges journalists face, including censorship, harassment, intimidation, and even violence. We condemn such attacks on press freedom and urge governments and stakeholders to ensure a safe and enabling environment for journalists to perform their duties without fear of reprisal.
On this World Press Freedom Day, we call on governments to:
- Protect journalists from persecution and violence
- Repeal laws that criminalize free speech and press freedom
- Ensure access to information and transparency
- Support independent and diverse media outlets
