The Legal department of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency TRACE in Collaboration with Nigeria Bar Association NBA, Ota Branch hosted a Strategic Workshop on the Legality of Traffic Management for top officers in the Ogun West Area Command.
In his keynote address, CDR. Seni Ogunyemi, TC/CEO, of the Agency who was represented by CDR Filani Moralake, said, for every responsibility given by an employer it’s their duty to effectively train such employer to fulfill it, so they could be passionate in the execution of their responsibilities. Change is the most constant thing in life, requiring you to learn, relearn and unlearn else we would not grow.
He said, “There is a need to update your knowledge about life issues and particularly your job to keep you abreast of developments that will assist to effectively carry out what is required of at any given time. The knowledge you have yesterday may be obsolete in todays reality, so the need to upscale what you know, necessitating this training to undergird your Operations in line with the extant laws that establishes and guides our Operations.”
Barrister Adewale Adegoke, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association NBA, in his submission, highlighted that there are two fundamental bench mark guiding the laws of enforcement and arrest of offenders, saying, “the offender should be given the right of fair hearing and you cannot be a judge in your own case.”
He went ahead to assert that the doctrine of necessity could be engaged in the dispensation of their operations, realising the critical nature of their work in ensuring constant traffic flow and making the roads safer for the motoring public.
Barr. Toyin Sonoiki, Director of Legal Services in the Agency, went in-depth unravelling the legal details contained in the laws in establishing and guiding how we should conduct our day to day Operations.
