JUST IN: Borno Governor Spokesperson Isa Gasau Dies in India |Omohglobalnews

Isa Gusau

The spokesman to Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, Mallam Isa Gusau, has died.

According to reports, he died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at a New Delhi hospital in India after a protracted illness.

“We have lost Isa to the cold hands of death, he was unconscious for about three days, we were all praying for his recovery but it was quite unfortunate that we lost him this evening (yesterday) in the hospital in New Delhi, India,” a source told ThisDay.

Confirming the development on his official Facebook page, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Senior Special Assitiant on Print Media said; “Inna lillahi wa inna illaihir raji’un. May the soul of Malam Isa Gusau find favour with Almighty Allah.

“He was a gentle and hard-working man. He, perhaps, had the record of being the longest-serving spokesperson to a governor having served then-Governor Kashim Shettima and went on to work with his predecessor, Governor Babagana Zulum.

“The sterling public images of the duo owe a lot to Isa Gusau’s expertise and diligence.”

The Borno State government is yet to make an official statement regarding the death, and it is unclear if Gusau’s remains will be brought home for interment.

In a related development, Obebhatein Jonathan, elder sister to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed on.

She died on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, after a brief illness, at the age of 70.

A statement by Mr Jonathan’s media office said the deceased, popularly known as Amissi, was a retired teacher, businesswoman, loving mother and grandmother who lived a dedicated life of service to God and humanity.

She was a devout Christian, a virtuous woman and a role model to many within and outside her community.

The statement also indicated that the burial has been scheduled for Tuesday 16 February, stressing that the details of the funeral rites would be announced by the family.

Mrs Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including former President Jonathan, and her mother Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
