Covenant University Partners AOOLG On Prostrate Awareness Campaign In Ota Communities|Omohglobalnews

In a bid to curtail the spread of prostate cancer in Ado-odo/ Ota Local Government area, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole, Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication, Africa Centre of Excellence CApIC-ACE and Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiatives  Committee CU-CDIIC Covenant University, Nigeria in conjunction with Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government organized a-day prostate cancer awareness campaign for Ota communities held at the Chief Nosiru Deinde  memorial Hall of the Council.

The Council Boss Engr.Sheriff Adewale Musa FCPA while welcoming the organisers of the programme from the prestigious Covenant University Ota,  commended the institution for its developmental projects at various communities of the council area. He equally extended his appreciations to the Chancellor of the institution Dr. David Oyedepo for his support to his administration for the betterment of Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government as a whole. He acknowledged prostate cancer awareness campaign  as welcomed development as it will  help communities mostly the male ones to know the danger prostate cancer poses .

Earlier speaking, the Head of the Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication Africa Centre of Excellence (CApIC-ACE) professor Emeka Iweala disclosed that prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men of 40 years and above. He added that earlier detection are keys to living a prostate cancer free life.

While delivering his lecture, the prostate specialist Dr. Chidiebere Ogo said 1 out of 6 men in Nigeria has prostate cancer. He added that men should be extra careful at age 40 and above, the disease is hardly been  detected or control as it occur  when certain genes in the prostate develops  mutations  that causes them to grow out of control and later form a tumor.

Dr. Ogo listed some risk factors for prostate cancer which includes age, race or ethnicity, hormones level, diet especially red meat, dairy foods, low in calcium and low fruits intake together with obesity which has high risk. He gave the symptoms of the disease as frequent urination, difficulties in starting or stopping  urination, painful ejaculation,  blood in urine or semen among others. He advised men to visit the nearest hospital for checkups on Prostate Specific Antigens (PSA) and to avoid herbal treatments.

The chairman Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiatives Committee (CU-CDIIC) professor Tayo George in her remark stated that covenant University is lending Its support toward the rapid developments and progress of Ota communities and its environs. She added that major functions of any  University is to teach, impart knowledge, carry out research has being done by Covenant University  Applied Informatics and Communication, Africa Centre of Excellence (CU-CApIC-ACE) while the third one is community development. She  highlighted some of the initiative programs of Covenant University to Ota communities which included borehole for  markets, transformers to various communities, renovation of Iju Health Clinic, donation of 30 kVA generator to Obasanjo police station Ota, provision of hilux vehicles to Sango police station and the Nigerian Navy Ota, free medical services, free eye glasses to both old and young during health programs, gift donation to orphanage homes and empowerment of 130 Ota youths among others.

Dignitaries in attendance were the Vice Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government  Mrs Saidat Olatunbosun Animashaun, Supervisor for Primary Health Care Mr Obanla Wesu, Supervisor for Water and Environmental Sanitation Hon. Mrs Adebowale kikelomo, Supervisor for Community Development and Social Welfare Mrs Ibikunle Tunrayo, Supervisor for Agriculture and Natural Resources Mrs Oduneye Sarah,  the Head of Local Government Administration Dr. Adebola Bamgbose FCPA,  Director of Primary Health Care Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Dr. Bakare Adediran,  Director of Budget Planning Research and statistics Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Mr. Emmanuel Pogbe Director of Agric and Natural Resources Mr .
