APC Rejects Tinubu’s Appointment Of Kolade Akinjo Into NDDC Board, Gives Reason |Omohglobalnews

The appointment of Kolade Akinjo as the Ondo representative on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been rejected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo.

President Bola Tinubu had named board members and a management team for the NDDC, with Akinjo chosen as the Ondo representative, which sparked the party’s reaction.

According to the party leaders, Akinjo was previously a member of the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and had actively worked for the opposition during the general elections.

In a statement issued by Alex Kalejaye, Ondo APC publicity secretary, the party expressed concerns that appointing Akinjo could negatively impact the morale of APC members who had contributed significantly to the party’s success during the elections.

“While we acknowledge Mr. President’s prerogative to appoint any qualified Nigerian to any office, given the mandate to lead our affairs, we must emphasize that Mr. Kolade Victor Akinjo was the House of Representatives candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the presidential election, having served two terms under the opposition party,” the statement said.

The party highlighted the contradiction of appointing someone who actively supported the PDP and its presidential candidate into a position of influence, which could potentially demoralize APC members who played a vital role in the state’s voting outcomes.

The party leaders urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider Akinjo’s appointment and choose a candidate with a track record of supporting the APC.

While commending the president for appointing Ifedayo Abegunde as the NDDC executive director of corporate services, the party leaders also lauded his economic efforts for the nation’s welfare.

They requested that the president reevaluate Akinjo’s appointment to prevent a situation reminiscent of the saying “Monkey dey work, Baboon dey chop.”
