Fire has gutted the personal residence of the outgoing Governor of Kano state, Dr Abdulahi Ganduje at Miyangu Street in Nassarawa GRA Kano.

The fire incident which was said to have occurred on Monday night, May 22, 2023, happened few days before the governor will handover Kano’s affairs to Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPPA) who was the state’s governorship election in March 2023.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi confirming the fire incident on Thursday, explained that the fire was already under control by the time firefighters got to the residence.

It was gathered that the fire started at a place where Ganduje rears cows adding that many of the animals died in the inferno, with other multi-million-naira property razed down.

A source said the cause of the fire was not immediately known but it started during the course of metal welding in the house as work was still ongoing to make the place a befitting residence for Kano State’s outgoing governor.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar declined to comment.

Meanwhile, Ganduje had on Wednesday presented the 2023 transition report to the Kano State Governor-elect, Abba Yusuf.

During a short meeting held at the Kano Government House, Ante Chamber Hall, Ganduje, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji reiterated his readiness to ensure a hitch-free transition on May 29, 2023.

To this extent, he urged the incoming administration to study the transition report and point out grey areas, where necessary, just as he appreciated the members of the outgoing government transition committee for producing three volumes of the report, covering all sectors of the state.

In his remarks, the Kano state governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the Chairman, New Nigeria People’s Party Governorship Transition Committee, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi disclosed that his committee will report to the incoming governor and make known their observations, if any.

“At this time, we have just 105 hours to formal handover and takeover of government in Kano state and as such, we are committed to a hitch-free transition in the interest of the good people of Kano,” Yusuf said.

Also in a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor-elect disclosed that details of the inauguration ceremony would be made available to the public subject to certain agreements to be reached between the outgoing and incoming governments.
