The Chairman of Ado-Odo OtA Local Government Engr. Sheriff Adewale Musa FCPA flaged-off free mass vaccination against Deadly and Economic Diseases of Animals at the Local Government Secretariat. The program was facilitated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in conjunction with Ogun State Government and supported by Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement Projects.
Engr. Musa during the ceremony appreciated the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for partnering with Ogun State Government with the Support by Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement Projects in bringing the program to the council area.
Engr. Sheriff Musa stated that "there are a lot of dogs in the Council area that are not registered or licensed hence a lot of rabid dogs could be on the 'prowl'. He urged all individuals, corporate organisations and communities to collaborate with the Government by making good use of free mass vaccination provided and powered by the world Bank to call the strain of animals with rabies in the environment.
Speaking earlier, the Director of Veteniary Service Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Jolaoso ably represented by Dr Oduloju Tokunbo in his welcome address made it known to the gathering that as a result of the increase in the number of cases globally and the impact on public health was the major reason the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in conjunction with Ogun State Government and Regional Disease Surveillance System and Enhancement Project decided to vaccinate Animals throughout the nooks and crannies of the State.
Furthermore, Dr Aderounmu Ayopo in a related development said the program is a continuous one and urged residents to visit Ado-Odo Ota Veterinary Clinic at Osi Ota for animal vaccination against rabies infection, Pest Des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Pneumonia and Foot and Mouth Disease for free vaccinations.
Animals ranging from dogs, rams and other pets were freely vaccinated by Doctors to the amazement of the gathering.
Also present at the event, were The Secretary to the Local Government Mr.Abiodun Akonthe Sejoro, Supervisor for Agric and natural resources Mrs Oduneye Sarah and other Supervisors, The Head of Local Government Administration Dr. Adebola Bamgbose, Director of Agric And Natural Resources, Mr. Kayode Kikisagbe and other Heads of Departments amongst others.
