APC Seeks Out-of-Court Settlement for FG, CBN Face-off with Govs Over Cash Swap|Omohglobalnews

By Jide Orintunsin, Abuja

Ahead of resumption of Wednesday’s Supreme Court suit filed by Governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara States over the cash swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday brokered a truce between them and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

The party at a meeting with Governors elected under its platform on Sunday advised the Federal Government and CBN to honour the order of the Supreme Court on the policy.

Sources at Muhammadu Buhari House, the national headquarters of the party, said the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu invited the three Governors and the Attorney General Abubakar Malami to a meeting to find a out-of-court court solution to the legal tussle before tbe next hearing of the suit.

Malami, who arrived from Ethiopia, drove straight to the party secretariat where he was later joined by Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna); Yayaha Bello (Kogi) and Matawalle Bello  (Zamafara).

The chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Kebbi Governor, Atiku Bagudu and former Zamafara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari also joined tbe meeting.

The meeting, which lasted almost two hours, also attracted Deputy National Chairman (North) Senator Abubakar Kyari; Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Emma Eneukwu and the National Secretary, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

Efforts by the newsmen to get the reaction after the meeting failed as Adamu, who led the Governors and the Minister out of his office barred journalists from asking questions.

The chairman simply said: “Newsmen, you are here again. We are on tbe same page. You can go” and led the governors to their cars.

Moves to get Atiku’s comment also failed as he maintained sealed lips.

On Sunday the party backed the position of the governors and advised the federal government and the apex bank to honour the Supreme Court order.
