The Portuguese star will have to wait before he takes the field Cristiano Ronaldo with Al Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo is going to have to wait until January 21 before he can make his debut for his new team, Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
Many fans had been excited to see Ronaldo in action in the Saudi Pro League against Al Ta'ee on Thursday, but the 28,000 fans who have got tickets will have to wait.
This is because whilst Ronaldo may not be a Manchester United player anymore, his ties to his time at Old Trafford are not gone yet.
The former United man is currently serving a suspension because of the time he smashed an Everton fan's phone out of their hand whilst leaving the pitch at Goodison Park.
He has a two-match ban to serve and even though it was handed to him by the English Football Association, it still transfers with him to Saudi Arabia.
In accordance with article 12.1 of FIFA's Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, Ronaldo must face the last outstanding penalty he left in the Premier League, although he has even changed continents.
"Any disciplinary sanction of up to four matches or up to three months that has been imposed on a player by the previous association but not yet (fully) served at the time of transfer shall be enforced by the new association with which the player is registered in order for the sanction to be enforced at national level," reads the regulations justifying Cristiano's debut ban.
The incident happened in November and as well as the two-match ban, he was also given a fine to pay. He left United before playing another game for the Red Devils.
"It is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the one we are facing," Cristiano wrote to apologize to the fan and invited him to Old Trafford, but he will not be able to fulfil that commitment either.
When will Ronaldo play for Al Nassr?
In addition to missing the expected debut against Al Ta'ee, he will not play against Al Shabab and it will not be until the 14th round of the Saudi Arabian League when the former Real Madrid man will be able to debut with Al Nassr, in the match against Al Ettifaq on January 21.
