Manchester United fans were left purring as Cristiano Ronaldo marked his return to the side in spectacular fashion. The Portuguese ace returned to the line-up against Tottenham, having missed the previous weekend’s derby defeat to Manchester City. And he wasted no time in marking his return with some of his brilliance.
Having picked up the ball from Fred’s flick 25 yards from goal, Ronaldo picked his head up and hammered the ball into the top corner of the net. The strike invoked memories of some of the 37-year-old’s best goals, and left the visitors stunned.
The goal comes after a week in which there was plenty of doubt over whether Ronaldo would be fit to face Spurs. Having missed the defeat to City, the former Real Madrid man also missed some of United’s training this week at Carrington.
But he put any doubts over his fitness to bed as he put his side in front in spectacular fashion against Spurs. And United’s fans revelled in seeing their star back to his best.
United know they face a crucial game in their battle to finish in the Premier League’s top four. With Spurs just two points behind them and with two games in hand ahead of kick-off, Ronaldo’s strike gave them the perfect platform.
